Andrew and Allison both are native Houstonians but it wasn’t until they reacquainted in the summer of 2008 when sparks flew. Since then, they have been inseparable. While they were preparing for their late summer wedding, they were involved in premarital counseling with Brett Hurst, who recommended the Couple Checkup as a part of their preparation. When asked about their experience with the Couple Checkup, Allison candidly shared “It was great! We had a lot of strengths and it really pushed us to talk about the hard topics where there was room for growth”. Andrew added that “it did highlight some areas we might not have recognized otherwise, and helped us to find a middle ground”.
As a part of their premarital preparation, they were afforded the ability to talk about the topics with their pastor, however Allison points out “I definitely think premarital education is important, I really liked how the Couple Checkup gives you discussion questions for each area, to get the topic going. It teaches you how to start the conversation – it covered a lot of topics in an in-depth manner.” Andrew agreed, adding “It certainly showcased our strengths and growth opportunities in an unbiased way; I have even recommended it to some of our friends who are newly engaged”.
They both highly recommend the Couple Checkup for couples who are dating but especially for those couples who are engaged. Allison believes “If you’re going to be with someone the rest of your life – it is definitely worth it to take the inventory and discuss the results, so you have a solid understanding and foundation to build your future on”.
